Slow start on the grass – and a void bet…
Wednesday 12th June 2019
In your Ones to Watch email today:
Rain delays…
The first week of the grass court season has got off to a very slow start.
WTA Nottingham was supposed to begin on Monday morning. We’re now at Wednesday lunchtime and the first wave of 1st Round matches have only just got underway – and that’s only because they’ve moved some of them indoors at Nottingham Trent University, with no access for spectators.
Play is finally scheduled to begin outdoors on the grass from 3pm – but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
It’s not just England, either. The ‘s-Hertongenbosch event in the Netherlands has been suffering from the weather, too.
Void bet…
Our 11/1 pick for WTA Nottingham has dropped out of the draw. At this point we don’t know if Dayana Yastremska has got injured or is unwell. Maybe she just got tired of waiting to play her match.
Whatever the reason, dropping out of the draw before taking to the court or hitting a ball means our Outright Winner bet on Yastremska is void with the bookies recommended in Monday’s email (Ladbrokes, Coral, Bet365, Skybet, William Hill) as a ‘Non Runner No Bet.’
You can find out more about bookies’ rules for Outright Winner bets here.
Gasquet into Round 2…
Over in the ATP ‘s-Hertogenbosch event, our 12/1 pick Richard Gasquet made a shaky start to his title defence. But the Frenchman fought back from a set & a break down against Aljaz Bedene to win his 1st Round match 6-7, 7-6, 6-4.
Gasquet moves into the 2nd Round where he’s a 4/7 (1.57) favourite to beat Mikhail Kukushkin on Thursday.
With the weather playing havoc with the schedules we might not have much bet action between now and the end of the week. But I’ll keep you posted if anything comes up for us.
P.S
Next week we have four more grass court tournaments on the calendar, as the build-up to Wimbledon gathers pace.
Thanks for all your emails and kind words after the French Open. I appreciate it. We’ll be ‘going daily’ again for the big one at SW19 starting 1st July.
Enjoy the tennis…
Best wishes,
Tom Wilson
