Battle of the Brits - Day Four...
Friday 26th June 2020
In your Ones to Watch email today:
A slow start to the day…
It seems the heat has slowed everyone down this morning.
Bookies have been sluggish pricing up the matchday markets for the Battle of the Brits. Oddschecker isn’t even acknowledging the Friday schedule in that event.
And over in the States, at 11pm tonight (UK time) we have Claire Liu v Coco Vandeweghe playing in the GST Tours Matchplay 120 series at Newport Beach, California.
That’s a match-up so was supposed to take place a week ago, but was cancelled due to injury. You can view my original write-up from last Friday here.
Since then, Liu hasn’t played, and Coco has played once and lost 2-0.
With injury doubts a possibility for both women, we’ll leave that one alone now. Besides, as I write, the only prices I can find for the Liu v Vandeweghe match are with sportsbook specialists Pinnacle.
Norrie aiming for the semis…
Back to Roehampton, London and the Battle of the Brits, most of the Singles matches are academic today, with Kyle Edmund and Dan Evans already qualified for Saturday’s semi finals, where they will join Andy Murray.
Edmund and Evans are both short odds-on to win today, at around 1/6 (1.17), taking on Liam Broady and Ryan Peniston respectively.
The group stages will conclude at the end of today with the match between our tournament underdog pick, Cameron Norrie, and injury stand-in Paul Jubb. Jubb is a talent, but we’ll be looking for Norrie to get the win and book his place in the semis here. Cameron is 2/5 (1.40) to beat Jubb.
I’ll be back tomorrow morning with our next visit to the National Tennis Centre, with a preview of the Battle of the Brits semi finals.
Enjoy the tennis,
Best wishes,
Tom Wilson
