Bloody-mindedness pays off…

Yesterday’s match in Florida between Jessica Pegula and Leylah Fernandez panned out just right for us. A topsy-turvy affair, with the more experienced player finishing stronger…

Fernandez led 3-1 in the 1st set, but lost it 6-3. Pegula was 4-2 up in the 2nd set, but lost it 6-4. And in the deciding set, the 17-year-old Fernandez lost each of her last three service games. Final result: Pegula 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

It was great to hear from a couple of you last night. David C got himself a win-win position by trading with Fernandez at 14/1 when trailing.

And Steve L was onboard with following the 2-1 Set Betting route that I’ve been a proponent of recently…

“Excellent bloody-mindedness - being of similar persuasion, I took 9-2 on Pegula winning 2-1 with Bet365”

2-1 Set Betting patterns…

Women’s matches are never more than best-of-three sets. The only Set Betting options are therefore, 2-0, 2-1, 0-2 and 1-2. Throw in the fact that women’s matches tend to be less serve-dominated than men’s, and the propensity for rollercoaster matches that go all the way to a third set is there to see…

Since 1st June, four out of seven women’s matches at the new GST Tours Matchplay 120 series in the USA have gone to three sets – with three of those four won 2-1 by the player that was the pre-match underdog in the Match Winner betting.

We’ll be looking to pick off a few more of those long matches and find 2-1 Set Betting potential at decent prices. So far with our ‘lockdown’ picks, we’ve had four such attempts at women’s matches, with two payouts both in the region of 4/1 (5.00), for a healthy overall profit.

More coming up…

No players & prices catch the eye for me in that way today. But with stacks more matches lined up this coming week – and throughout June & July, for that matter – we can look to spot a few more 2-1 prices worth getting involved with. And of course, you & I are always on the watch for appealing underdogs & outsiders, too.

I’ll be back on Monday with your next update. Today would’ve been the men’s French Open final. But not to worry. The Grand Slams and full stadiums will return at some point…

And in terms of having spectators at matches, it was reported this week that all 1,000 tickets for Novak Djokovic’s Adria Tour event in Belgrade, Serbia (13th June) sold out in just seven minutes. Crowd noise at a tennis match again? That’s a small but positive step on the way back to ‘normal’…

See you tomorrow.

Enjoy the tennis,

Best wishes,
