Tennis Betting Advice - June 2022
Wimbledon Qualifying picks at 10/1...
Thursday 23rd June 2022
Good morning. We came so close to landing a big one yesterday…
Four out of five from the Match Winner acca. And the one leg that let us down, Magda Linette, served for the match in the final set at 5-4. You don’t get much closer to a 30/1 winner.
If Linette had managed to serve that out, it would’ve made it a near-perfect sunny day for us…
Our two big price Outright Winner picks at ATP Eastbourne both won their Last 16 matches on Wednesday, despite starting their respective encounters as underdogs:
Backing two Americans on grass in England at large prices was definitely an outsider betting move this week. But that’s how we do things here at Ones to Watch. In terms of getting value odds in the book, our USA representatives have achieved that:
Plus, by making our moves at the start of the week we got the desirable Each Way odds of 1/2 odds for 1-2 places. Those place terms are now reduced for anyone joining the party late today, with 1/3 odds the offering in this morning’s revised Outright Winner markets.
That’s the good news, then. We have two players through to the Eastbourne quarter finals, at attractive prices.
The tough assignments continue today. Maxime Cressy is 7/4 (2.75) to beat top seed and home favourite Cameron Norrie. Tommy Paul is the same underdog price to beat reigning Eastbourne champ Alex De Minaur. Our boys overturned the odds yesterday. What’s to say they can’t do it again. I’ll be tuning in to watch. BBC and Amazon Prime are showing the action.
Wimbledon Women’s Qualifiers this afternoon…
Yesterday there were some 90-odd matches on the tennis schedule, which gave us plenty to aim at when selecting that near-miss five-fold. There’s 40+ on the list again today. And this time the players and prices that catch my eye are in the Wimbledon Women’s Qualifiers at Roehampton…
This is the 3rd round of qualifying, and the stakes are really upped now, with a lucrative place in the Wimbledon main draw the prize this afternoon – a genuine career goal and highlight for many of these lesser-known players.
The men’s qualifiers kick things off on the Thursday programme from 11am. Followed by the women’s matches, which are set for around 1pm (whenever the men’s have finished).
I like these five women to all come through today. These are all generally involved in contests where they are priced as the marginal favourite, and I reckon they’re a bit more likely to win than the odds suggest.
My selections today:
Mirjam Bjorkland to beat Maria Lourdes Carle (Bjorkland is higher ranked, and the no.3 seed in the qualifying draw. Posted a good 2-0 win in the last round)
Maddison Inglis to beat Natalija Stevanovic (Inglis is higher ranked, and holds a 2-0 head-to-head v Stevanovic – including a 6-2, 6-1 win here in the Wimbledon qualifiers last year)
Yanina Wickmayer to beat Su Jeong Jang (Wickmayer’s lowly 603 world ranking is down to injury layoffs. The 32-year-old is vastly experienced on grass, with 59 career match wins to her name. Yanina is yet to drop a set this week, with 2-0 wins in the first two qualifying rounds)
Nastasja Mariana Schunk to beat Danielle Lao (back the youngster here. The 18-year-old Schunk is one to watch for the future. The German is yet to drop a set through the first two rounds)
Jana Fett to beat Katarina Zavatska (Fett is 7-3 on grass this season, and won her previous meeting with Zavatska. The Croatian has the better grass-court credentials in this match-up)
The acca on those five to all win pays around 10/1.
