Young guns…

Just one notch down from a Grand Slam, this month’s Indian Wells & Miami events could see some more ‘changing of the guard’ moments…

ATP Indian Wells starts at 7pm this evening. This big tournament presents us with the opportunity to back two of our Ones to Watch in 2019 youngsters at fancy prices.

We’re going for one player from each side of the draw:

Ones to Watch at 40/1 and 66/1…

Stefanos Tsitsipas is up to a new career high of No.10 in the world. The 20-year-old has already reached two finals this season, winning ATP Marseille at 11/2 (6.50) and then finishing runner-up as a 12/1 shot at ATP Dubai last week.

The talented Greek star also made the semi finals of the Australian Open, where he was a 40/1 outsider – beating Roger Feder on the way. Indian Wells gives us the chance to follow Tsitsipas at a chunky Each Way price, with 40/1 and 33/1 available.

Tsitsipas is in the top half of the draw, where World No.1 Novak Djokovic is the 6/5 (2.20) tournament favourite. Those two are in different Quarters of the draw-sheet though, meaning they can’t meet until the semi final stage.

In the bottom half, Daniil Medvedev stands out at 66/1. Like Tsitsipas, the Russian is also enjoying a new high in rankings (No.15). Medvedev was impressive in defeat against Djokovic at the Australian Open, in particular showing that he is more than just a big server and big hitter, with some gruelling rallies and a very high level of ball-striking, defence and court coverage.

The 23-year-old Medvedev has also made two finals already in 2019, a 14/1 runner-up at ATP Brisbane in January, then a 5/1 winner at ATP Sofia last month. Again, we can get a much bigger price on our youngster here.

Roger Federer is 11/2 (6.50) and in Quarter 3 of the draw, with Rafael Nadal at 5/1 for the title and in Quarter 4 along with Medvedev. Nadal hasn’t made the final here in his last four attempts, although of course the big boys are always dangerous.

The prices are key here. Tsitsipas and Medvedev are improving at a rate of knots and look genuine Top 10 and even Top 5 players for years to come. Let’s get them in the book for Indian Wells 2019 while the odds are still very much in our favour.
