Tennis Betting Advice - March 2021
Casper in the quarters tonight...
Thursday 18th March 2021
In your Ones to Watch email today:
When it comes to the tournament Outright Winner markets, my Ones to Watch approach is always the same. I look to back appealing outsiders at attractive Each Way prices.
The very nature of that betting tactic means losing runs are inevitable. It’s a waiting game. It requires patience. When the 50/1 and 100/1 finalists come along, it’s all smiles.
Along the way, the road can sure be bumpy. Seeing a player crash out in the 1st round is never nice. And it’s happened a few times with my picks lately.
We do well to get a good few men and women through to the business end of events. This is where the excitement comes…
Casper in the quarters tonight…
Tonight, we’ve got 33/1 Casper Ruud in the quarter finals at ATP Acapulco.
This feels like a proper Ones to Watch match to me. Our young outsider is taking on an established Top 10 name.
The man on the other side of the net is current world no.7, and 2nd seed in Acapulco this week, Alexander Zverev.
Today’s match will be their first meeting. Zverev is the huge favourite, priced at short odds-on, 1/6 (1.17) to win. Our man Ruud is the 4/1 (5.0) underdog.
This is an interesting match on its own merit – an upcoming talent taking on one of the headline Next Gen names.
And to add some extra intrigue and incentive…
After 4th seed Milos Raonic was knocked out last night by a 6/1 match outsider, Dominik Koepfer. The semi final on this side of the draw will see Ruud or Zverev take on Koepfer or Cameron Norrie.
Zverev will be expected to not only beat Casper Ruud tonight, but also to frank short odds-on favouritism in the semi. In other words, the German has – on paper – a ‘soft’ route through to the final.
It doesn’t always work out that way, though. And the underdog side of things is where we operate…
I’m expecting a good match this evening. I’ll be watching. They’re due on court from Midnight. If you’re joining me, it’s live on Amazon Prime Video.
P.S
Miami Open next week…
We’ve got a huge tournament to look forward to next week. The Miami Open – the ‘fifth Major’ – features the top names in both the men’s and women’s game. It’s a near two-week event, only beaten in scale by the four annual Grand Slams.
The Miami Open has a history of producing big-price finalists. Since 2016, Miami finals have seen players contest the trophy at odds of 28/1, 50/1, 66/1, and 100/1 in the women’s tournament. And 25/1, 40/1, and 80/1 in the men’s event.
I’ll be in touch from Monday evening, with dedicated coverage and player picks for the main event in Florida.
Enjoy the tennis…
Best wishes,
