Time to back Taylor...

In your Ones to Watch email today:
Early Atlanta form…
Grace Min and Paige Hourigan had a good day’s work on Monday. Each posted two victories out of two on day one of the women’s Exo-Tennis event in Atlanta.
We went for the players with ‘local knowledge’ and on the underdog side of the odds. That approach paid off with Min beating Sachia Vickery 6-2, 6-4 at Evens (2.00). And Hourigan was comfortable 6-1, 6-2 winner over Elizabeth Halbauer, despite being priced as big as 9/5 (2.80) in the initial odds.
Min had earlier beaten 18-year-old Carly Briggs, 6-1, 6-3 as a strong favourite. And Hourigan started her campaign with a great result, beating Vickery 6-4, 6-4 as a 7/2 (4.50) outsider.
Time to back Taylor…
Yesterday we noted that Sachia Vickery has been in action at an event last week, and lost four out of six matches against a less than imposing calibre of players. The 25-year-old American didn’t look too ‘up for it’ in Atlanta yesterday. Her body language wasn’t great, and two 2-0 defeats summed up Sachia’s day.
Taylor Townsend is the headline name at this tournament, and the American left-hander delivered on her favouritism with two 2-0 victories on Monday. Beating Katie Poluta 6-1, 6-1 at crazy-short odds of 1/50 (1.02). Then taking out Briggs 7-6, 6-2 at similarly unbackable prices.
Today the level of opponent goes up a notch or two, and the odds move up in line. Townsend is 1/4 (1.25) to beat Halbauer, and 1/2 (1.50) at best to beat Vickery.
A few bookies have got Set Betting markets up, and they offer up larger prices, for a dominant winning score-line…
Last week we saw Kevin King rip through the men’s Atlanta field, winning all eight of his matches without dropping a single set. Taylor might not have that level of consistency in her here, but I would fancy the serve-volley merchant to continue her strong start into today’s matches.
Townsend is around 4/9 (1.44) to beat Halbauer in straight sets.
The more appealing price though is Evens+ (2.00+) to defeat Vickery by the 2-0 score – especially given the less-than-encouraging form that Sachia is in.
The career head-to-head between these two Americans is tied at 3-3, but the most recent meeting was a straight-sets 7-5, 6-2 victory for Taylor on the Indian Wells hard courts last year.
With the markets, match schedule and form in mind, Taylor to win 2-0 at Evens might be the best price we get on her all week.
