Instead of the French Open...
Thursday 21st May 2020
In your Ones to Watch email today:
The French Open would’ve been starting this weekend…
I’d have been going daily with my Ones to Watch coverage from Paris. Aiming to snag another big price like we did with 50/1 Sofia Kenin at the Australian Open in January. That seems a long time ago now…
Wimbledon has also been wiped off the 2020 calendar. And the ATP & WTA Tours aren’t due back until August.
All is not lost, though…
Our ‘lockdown list’…
There is still competitive tennis taking place. New, localised events have sprung up in Europe and the USA.
Tournaments like the Tennis Point Exhibition Series in Germany… the UTR Pro Match Series in Florida… and the Exo-Tennis competition in Atlanta, Georgia.
You and I have been having a pretty decent time of it as we approach these new events. I’ve been watching, studying, researching and reporting on those tournaments. And sending out my match picks throughout the week and at the weekends, too.
I’m calling this new element of the service our ‘lockdown list’…
So far this month, we’ve looking at a total of 14 matches, and landed 10 successful picks.
That’s a healthy 71% strike-rate that I’d happily take on any pedigree of tennis. To level stakes, our lockdown picks have so far generated a 65% ROI.
True to Ones to Watch style, my main focus is on attractive prices and the underdog end of the odds…
Price watch…
This week at the women’s Exo-Tennis event in Atlanta, Georgia, we’ve had four out of five successful ventures into the daily match markets.
All four of those Atlanta wins have come at against-the-odds, underdog prices. Including a 9/2 winner on World No.907 Katarina Jokic yesterday, who landed those outsider odds with a 6-4, 7-6 win over World No.73 Taylor Townsend.
It looks like many of you were on that Jokic bet…
The Croatian was trending on Oddschecker yesterday, with initial 9/2 (5.50) and 4/1 (5.00) odds backed right down to 9/4 (3.25) and then 5/4 (2.25) by the time the match started. That’s quite a swing.
Two events this weekend…
Two more events start tomorrow, Friday 22nd May.
With the men in action at the second instalment of their Exo-Tennis tournament in Atlanta. And a women’s competition in Florida, as part of the UTR Pro Match Series.
That Florida line-up includes some familiar names for us. Including last summer’s Wimbledon quarter-finalist Alison Riske, and 2019 Australian Open semi-finalist, Danielle Collins.
Last weekend at the first men’s Exo-Tennis event in Atlanta, local player Kevin King wiped the floor with eight of eight match wins, without losing a single set.
As I write, in this week’s women’s Exo-Tennis matches, former Georgia Tech college player Paige Hourigan has reeled off six out of six victories.
We’ll be looking to latch on to more ‘ones to watch’ like those…
I’ll be covering this weekend’s two events, as well as upcoming exhibition tournaments being planned for France, Spain, Austria and even here in the UK this summer.
Lookout for your next email from me tomorrow morning.
Enjoy the tennis…
Best wishes,
Tom Wilson
