Melzer goes again...
Friday 29th May 2020
In your Ones to Watch email today:
It’s been a bitty week with a few rain delays and player withdrawals. However, we’re doing okay. Largely due to Sachia Vickery’s continued form in Atlanta…
Vickery was a 2-0 winner for us yesterday, beating Elizabeth Halbauer 6-1, 6-4. Vickery has now won 11 of her last 12 matches, and 10 of them in straight sets. She’s short odds-on to keep that running going today v McCartney Kessler.
In our underdog match in the States, Kessler didn’t get the chance to test herself against Grace Min on Thursday, as Min withdrew before the day’s play began.
In the Czech Republic, Petra Kvitova showed that competitive edge we were talking about. Petra was 1-3 down in the first set v her younger compatriot Karolina Muchova – but reeled off eight straight games to take a commanding lead. Barring a short blip for a rain delay in the second set, Kvitova finished the job in style, 6-3, 6-3.
Melzer goes again…
Our one match of interest today is at the new Generali Pro Series in Austria. Rain wiped out the first two days of play earlier this week. As such, our featured match from Monday has yet to take place…
Jurgen Melzer v Lenny Hampel is due out on the clay courts at 1pm UK time. You can read my initial analysis and advice for that one here.
In short, Melzer is 1/2 (1.50) to win the match, but my take is for the bigger price on Melzer to win 2-1 in the Set Betting market at 7/2 (4.50).
The signs have been good enough for that more speculative option so far. Melzer had a 2-1 win in his opening match on Wednesday, and Hampel has had a three-setter, too.
More to come…
There’s tennis for us to look at each day right now, including the weekend. And more new events due to start in Germany and elsewhere next week.
I’ll be touch with more analysis & advice whenever there’s a player & price that I like. Expect any email updates from me this weekend to arrive before 12 noon.
Enjoy the tennis,
Best wishes,
Tom Wilson
