Casper and Cristian in the quarter finals...
Friday 7th May 2021
In Ones to Watch today:
Casper and Cristian in the quarter finals…
It wasn’t to be for Paula Badosa. Our 200/1 outsider made a brilliant run all the way to the WTA Madrid semi finals, where she put up a gallant fight against Ashleigh Barty. The World No.1 was just too good though, winning 6-4, 6-3. As the Amazon TV commentator said at the end, the match was closer than that score-line suggests.
Ones to Watch member Steve L sums things up well for us:
“Bad luck with Badosa but the run was great fun … Ruud and Garin had great victories so the fun continues”
That’s the spirit, Steve. The fun does indeed continue, with both of our men’s Madrid picks through to the quarter finals…
We’ve got a couple of big prices here, too. With Cristian Garin at 50/1. And our clay-court regular Casper Ruud in the book at a top-price 66/1, although seeing how fast that Boylesports price went on Tuesday night, the 40/1 & 33/1 across the boards is more like what most of us are probably on.
Both men had excellent underdog victories on Thursday. Garin beat World No.3, Daniil Medvedev. And Ruud beat World No.5, Stefanos Tsitsipas.
In this morning’s revised ATP Madrid Outright Winner market, the bookies now have Garin at 14/1 & 16/1, and Ruud at 10/1 in general.
The dream ticket…
With our two players in the same quarter of the draw, the dream ticket would be both winning today… meaning Ruud & Garin would then face each other in the semi final, to give us a guaranteed finalist and Each Way payout.
The quarter finals start from 12 noon, UK time. Our two men are in the last two matches of the day, from 6pm onwards. You can watch live online on various bookie websites, as well as on Amazon Prime Video.
The French Open build-up continues next week with another big Masters 1000 event – with the men & women both in action in Rome. We’ll be taking a first look at the draws and prices on Sunday night/ Monday morning.
