Rome Masters – Italian young guns at 33/1 & 150/1…

We have another big clay-court Masters event this week – and it starts from 9 o’clock this morning.

I’ll be brief right now then, so we can get our first two Outright Winner selections in the book.

These two Italian teenagers both play their respective 1st round matches in Rome today:

Jannik Sinner @ 33/1

The 19-year-old was a 33/1 Masters finalist for us in Miami, and I want to keep Sinner onside in events like these at prices like this.

He could get a crack at Rafael Nadal in the 2nd round, and that would be a great match-up to take a look at. Rafa is the 6/4 (2.5) tournament favourite, but could ‘only’ manage a quarter final in Madrid last week. I want to be on the side of youth right now.

Sinner’s current pattern seems to be he has a good run, followed by a minor drop-off, then another good one. His last four tournament results have gone: final, 2nd round, semi final, 2nd round. If he bounces back again here, then a deep run in Rome could be on the cards.

Lorenzo Musetti @ 150/1

Sinner is up to a career-high of no.18 in the world rankings, and fellow Italian teenager Musetti is also hitting new heights in 2021, up to no.82.

Lorenzo announced himself on the scene here in Rome last season, beating two big names, Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori. He’ll be looking to ruffle more feathers this year.

If he beats fellow Next Generation rising star Hubert Hurkacz this evening, odds of 150/1 will be chopped.

Ones to Watch

ATP Rome – Internazionali BNL d'Italia

  • Jannik Sinner is 33/1 with Bet365, Skybet, William Hill, BetVictor, Betfred, Ladbrokes, Coral
  • Lorenzo Musetti is 150/1 with Bet365, William Hill, BetVictor, Betfred, Ladbrokes, Coral

Each Way terms: 1/2 odds 1-2 places.

Those are my first two picks for Rome this week. Play starts from 9am and bookies will take down their Outright Winner markets during the day’s matches. The women are also in action in Italy this week. I’ll be back soon with more.

Enjoy the tennis…

Best wishes,
