** Service Announcement **

It’s time to tell you my real name…

Good afternoon. I’ve been wanting to tell you this for a while now…

There’s no big Scooby-Doo face-mask ‘reveal’ needed…

My name isn’t actually Tom Wilson…

My name is Oliver Upstone.

Back when I first put forward the idea of a tennis betting service to my publisher, well over 10 years ago…

The industry was very different back then - and I was a much younger man…

It was commonplace to use a pseudonym… an alias… a nom de plume…

So, we settled on Tom Wilson. It fitted the bill at the time…

You might think the inspiration for that name came from the Wilson sports brand. And while the logo on Roger Federer’s racket of choice was certainly in my mind…

Tom Wilson’s tennis service was actually named after the actor Thomas F. Wilson. Who you may know as Biff from the Back to the Future films…

A character who gets his hands on a Sports Almanac, travels back in time, and - armed with the results for all the upcoming major sporting events - makes his millions through betting…

While you & I haven’t had the benefit of time-travel to help us strike our tennis bets. We’ve certainly landed some fantastic results over the years…

As we prepare for our 10th Wimbledon…

If you’ve been with me since our first dedicated Wimbledon daily service in 2013, for example. Where we had women’s runner-up Sabine Lisicki at 80/1 Each Way… while also flagging-up the eventual 100/1 winner Marion Bartoli along the way… and successfully calling Andy Murray’s first SW19 title at that year’s tournament, too.

This summer’s trip to Wimbledon will actually mark 10 years of my Grand Slam daily service (after the event was cancelled in 2020). And I’m very much looking forward to it. We’ve already got a couple of 50/1+ picks in the book - and there will be more to come…

I’ve got my tickets for Wimbledon in July. But I’m still a ‘maybe’ as to whether I’ll be attending…

And that brings me to my other news today. I’ve got a baby on the way. I’m extremely excited to become a father for the first time.

With that big life change on the way very soon, it was feeling increasingly weird to call myself ‘Tom’ - especially when at some stage this summer, I’ll need to go offline for a week or two. And I didn’t really want to come up with some fictional reason why ‘Tom’ was going to be out of action!

So, there you have it. There is no Tom Wilson. This service is, has, and always will be written and delivered to you by me. And my name is Oliver Upstone.

(If you’re a long-time Oxfordshire Press subscriber, then perhaps you also know me from my long-running football service, Across the Leagues.)

That’s the news for today. There is no change to your Ones to Watch service. I’m excited for the upcoming Grand Slams - with the French Open this month, and Wimbledon and then the US Open after that…

In fact, I’m working on a few improvements and additional features for the service. More on that soon…

P.S
We’re going to keep the ‘Tom’ inbox open for a while. But you can also now email me direct at:

Enjoy the tennis…

Best wishes,

Oliver Upstone
