The Russian Wall…

Our 25/1 pick in Luxembourg, Margarita Gasparyan, fell in the quarter finals. But 22/1 Daria Kasatkina is through to the Moscow semi finals…

An entertaining clip from Wednesday night’s match with Alize Cornet shows some great character from Kasatkina and her camp. Her coach steals the show with some solid advice. “Be the Russian wall” = get every ball back, again and again. It certainly helped. Kasatkina went on to beat Cornet, then win her quarter final v Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, too.

I’ve said before how much I like Kasatkina’s competitive spirit. As Dasha says: “I want to win this whole tournament”…

The WTA have dressed it up for their social media channels. View the clip here.

A saver bet to cover your stakes…

Our 22/1 Each Way pick at the start of the week, Kasatkina is now a 9/4 (3.25) second favourite for the WTA Moscow trophy.

We’ve got a great value price on the Russian. She faces Johanna Konta in the semi final on Friday afternoon (2.30pm).

The head-to-head is 1-1. Kasatkina won their most recent meeting, on hard courts earlier this year, in a three-hour battle that went the distance to a final set, and both players had Match Points along the way. Friday’s match could be another tight one.

Kasatkina has been vulnerable on serve lately too, with her excellent rallying and returning getting her out of trouble and helping her see off opponents despite losing half of her service games. Konta is one of the better servers on the women’s tour, so Dasha will need to be on it tomorrow.

The sensible move here is a saver bet on Konta to beat Kasatkina. The British player is widely available at Evens or better (2.00+).

  • Staking 2 pts on Konta to win the match will return 4 pts if Konta wins, covering the original 2 pts stakes on Kasatkina (1 pt Each Way)

Of course, if you prefer to trade off more, or less, or nothing at all – the call is yours to make.

If Kasatkina beats Konta, the Each Way place payout for reaching the final will be assured. With the Win Only part of the bet offering a potentially bumper payout, should Daria go all the way.
