It’s Quarter Finals day...
Thursday 18th October 2018
In your Ones to Watch email today:
A quick update on the progress of this week’s Ones to Watch picks…
Our selections played out two contrasting matches yesterday, but the end results were ultimately the same…
In Luxembourg, our 25/1 pick Margarita Gasparyan secured a 9th win from her last 10 matches, beating Dalila Jakupovic in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0, to book her place in the quarter finals.
Gasparyan is now down to 7/1 for the WTA Luxembourg title. The highest seeded player in that half of the draw, Garbine Muguruza, is out. Muguruza was 9/2 (5.50) for the trophy at the start of the week, but has now gone 13 tournaments without making a final.
In today’s quarter final (1.30pm), Gasparyan plays Muguruza’s conqueror, the 18-year-old Dayana Yastremska.
Meanwhile, in Russia…
Our 22/1 pick Daria Kasatkina had a much longer match. Daria needed almost two and a half hours to fight back from a set down to eventually squeeze out Alize Cornet, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.
Kasatkina is now just 9/2 (5.50) for the WTA Moscow title. Last year’s runner-up is into the Moscow quarter finals for the fourth year running. The likeable 21-year-old takes on fellow Russian, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova this afternoon (4.30pm).
We have two players on our side at big prices. You can watch the matches live on BT Sport.
Enjoy the tennis…
Best wishes,
Tom Wilson
