Two quarter finals to look forward to...

Seven days ago we spoke about our healthy record of getting players into quarter finals.

A week later and we have two more Ones to Watch picks each with chances of making the business end of a tournament...

On Sunday night we named four players across the WTA events in Moscow and Luxembourg.

Svetlana Kuznetsova (25/1) crashed out in the 1st round in Russia, and teenager Cori Gauff (16/1) ran out of steam in Luxembourg after a great tournament win in Austria.

Our other two women have been doing much better...

In Moscow – where Russian players have had plenty of success in recent times, with four of the last five Kremlin Cup winners being ‘home’ players – we have Russian No.2, Ekaterina Alexandrova (22/1).

Alexandrova has bludgeoned her way through the opening rounds with two convincing score-lines, winning 6-1, 6-4 and then 6-1, 6-1. She’ll face Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic in Friday’s quarter final. The bookies make Muchova the 8/11 (1.73) match favourite, but the career head-to-head is 4-1 to our player.

In Luxembourg, we have Elena Rybakina (16/1) into the quarter finals. The 20-year-old from Kazakhstan has also started impressively with two straight-sets victories, 6-2, 7-6 and then a convincing 6-2, 6-1.

Rybakina will face Laura Siegemund, and the oddsmakers have our youngster as a 4/7 (1.57) favourite to beat her 31-year-old German opponent. Rybakina is higher-ranked, and won their only previous meeting which came on the lower-tier ITF Tour circuit earlier this year.

BT Sport will have live coverage of the quarter finals on Friday.

  • Next week we have three more tournaments on the schedule. I’ll email you with my first thoughts on those on Sunday evening

Enjoy the tennis…

Best wishes,
