Quarter Finals day - two players in action for us...

Friday 23rd October 2020

In your Ones to Watch email today:

  • Quarter Finals day…
  • ATP Antwerp…
  • WTA Ostrava…

It’s quarter finals day at this week’s ATP & WTA events. We’ve got two Ones to Watch picks still running for us…

Evans in Antwerp…

In Belgium, at ATP Antwerp, 22/1 Dan Evans is now down to 7/1 in the Outright Winner market. His quarter final match-up with Karen Khachanov is an interesting one…

The Russian is the higher-ranked player, and slightly shorter than Evans in this morning’s revised tournament market (6/1).

Yet the bookmakers have the British man as the match favourite this afternoon. And the head-to-head is 1-0 to Evans, from their meeting in Rotterdam in February, which – like this week’s event – was played indoors on hard courts.

Brady in Ostrava…

Over in the Czech Republic at WTA Ostrava, we have Jennifer Brady (12/1 – 18/1) through to the quarter finals. She’s now down to 3/1 and 4/1 in the Outright betting.

The American has had to work hard in the first two rounds, coming from a set down against the dangerous Dayana Yastremska in the 1st round. Before clawing back a 5-2 deficit in the first set against Daria Kasatkina last night, finishing very strongly to win 7-5, 6-2.

I like Yastremska and Kasatkina, although for very different reasons. Yastremska has sensational power and a fierce competitive nature. Kasatkina is always utterly charming in interviews, and plays the game with real flair and skill. We’ll be keeping an eye on those two young women next season, for sure.

Brady’s hard-court prowess and gritty spirit has been on show in both matches this week. Expect to see plenty more big hitting today – from both women – as our pick takes on Ones to Watch in 2020 name, Veronika Kudermetova…

The 23-year-old Russian took out home favourite Karolina Pliskova yesterday. Brady leads the head-to-head v Kudermetova, 1-0, after a 2-0 victory on clay in Madrid last year. The bookies have the American as the 4/9 (1.44) favourite to win again today.

See you for Sunday Night Club…

That’s all from me for today. We have two players with chances in the quarter finals, at decent prices. And the bookies make them both favourites to progress through to the semi finals. Let’s see what happens this afternoon…

Overall, we’re in very good shape for 2020, despite the decimated tournament calendar. And the season still has a good bit of life left in it, with big men’s events coming up in the shape of the ATP Paris Masters, and then the ATP Finals in London.

Before that, there are tournaments next week in Vienna and Astana. I’ll be in touch with a first look at the draws and Outright Winner prices for those on Sunday night.

Enjoy the tennis…

Best wishes,
