Tennis Betting Advice - October 2021
Good vibes at 25/1...
Monday 11th October 2021
In Ones to Watch today:
Last week we allowed ourselves a little reminiscence of our previous adventure at Indian Wells, USA. Which, due to the pandemic, was back in March 2019…
That year, we got on the eventual winner, Bianca Andreescu, on the middle Monday of the tournament – at odds of 30/1 & 28/1.
Bianca feels good…
I said there was no room for nostalgia. And there isn’t. I’m putting Andreescu up again as WTA Indian Wells pick today, on merit.
Bianca is the kind of player you just can’t rule out. She likes this venue. When her health & fitness is there, the young Canadian is a true world-beater.
Ahead of tonight’s encounter with Anett Kontaveit, these comments show the 21-year-old is talking a good game:
“I’ve been feeling really good the last couple of days. I’ve been working hard, training very well and just enjoying Indian Wells. The hikes are gorgeous. The food is really good. It’s just good vibes out here.”
Kontaveit is the 1/2 (1.5) favourite to beat Andreescu this evening. In the Outright Winner market, the Estonian is now a pretty skinny 14/1 in general, from 33/1 at the start of the tournament.
Anett recently won two WTA titles, Cleveland and Ostrava, either side of the US Open. That makes 2021 the 25-year-old’s best season to date in terms of titles won on the main tour. Kontaveit won her previous meeting with Andreescu, on grass this summer.
However, price-wise, I’m not keen to get behind Kontaveit as the odds-on favourite in today’s encounter…
Andreescu is one of the best match-players in the sport. The defending 2019 champion had a Bye through the 1st round last week. A trademark two-sets-to-one win in the 2nd round against America’s Alison Riske shows Bianca has lost absolutely none of her competitive drive.
The 2019 US Open and Toronto champion has had several injury setbacks since that breakthrough year, not to mention coronavirus. But let’s not forget, Andreescu is still only 21 years of age.
If she’s going to start winning trophies again – and I feel she is – then a tournament like this, where she has course form, is the kind of place where she’s likely to do it…
Andreescu is available at 25/1 and 22/1 today – the same prices that were available for her on day one of the competition, last week.
2-1 Andreescu the trademark move…
I mentioned the 2-1 Set Betting score is a trademark result for Bianca. Four of her last six match victories have come via the three-set route.
It’s worth pointing out that four of Kontaveit’s last five defeats have gone to a third set, too.
With that in mind, and with price as always at the forefront for my selections, an Andreescu 2-1 win tonight – at odds of 5/1 (6.0), 24/5 (5.8), or 9/2 (5.5) – appeals to my outsider tastes, ahead of 13/8 (2.62) in the standard Match Winner market.
Elsewhere in the women’s Indian Wells draw, we have Coco Gauff (40/1 & 33/1), through to the 3rd round, and now 20/1 or shorter.
In the men’s, our pair of 33/1 rising star picks, Casper Ruud and Jannik Sinner, were two of the most impressive performers in the opening rounds. Winning 6-1, 6-2, and 6-2, 6-2, respectively.
Play continues from 7pm this evening, UK time…
