Ones to Watch in Paris - at 9/1 and 100/1...

Tuesday 31st October 2023

Good morning. A very late finish on day one in Paris yesterday (gone 2am local time - and I watched it), means that we're left with just a small early-morning window to make our move in the Outright Winner market. Before play resumes this morning at 10am UK time...

So, without further ado...

Ones to Watch in Paris...

Two 40/1+ shots that I've had earmarked all year for potential success at this event:

Upcoming star Sebastian Korda (best price 50/1). And former Rolex Paris Masters title winner, Karen Khachanov (70/1 & 66/1).

Korda has a very (very) tight looking one against Hubert Hurkacz today. But I'm sticking with the younger man on this occasion, who, after recent exploits, might arrive with fresher legs than our friend Hubi Hurkacz.

Khachanov has returned to trophy-winning form this season - claiming his first ATP title since bagging the biggest silverware of his career here in 2018. He's also done well in a few of the recent Majors. Karen is 2-0 against today's 2nd round opponent, our recent Stockholm semi-finalist, Laslo Djere.

There are plenty of other potential outsiders on the draw-sheet here this week...

One I'm willing to take a flyer on is our 33/1 breakthrough winner from last year at this event, Holger Rune. Yes, he's been in dreadful form in recent months. But make absolutely no mistake, the 20-year-old world no.7 is a winner. He's the real deal. Boris Becker added to the coaching staff, and fitness seemingly on the up again. Holger made the semi finals indoors at Basel last week. That could prove a telling pipe-opener for this big ATP 1000 indoors event in Paris. Rune is available at 50/1.

And for a home player to follow at 100/1, I've long had a feeling that the talented Ugo Humbert could go all the way in a big tournament one day. We've seen it before from underdogs at this tournament at similar prices. With momentum and a fair tailwind, Humbert might just put a run together in his section of the draw here. He's 2-0 against today's opponent Marcos Giron.

Last but not least for this big event. A top, top player at 9/1Ones to Watch regular Jannik Sinner is moving ever closer to the highest echelons of the sport. Claiming his first ATP Masters 1000 title this season, the 22-year-old world no.4 is well capable of another. He's won two of his last three tournaments. And indoors, Sinner has got to the final in three out of three events this year - winning two, with a mighty match win-loss record of 12-1.
