Stay with Sabalenka at 16/1…
Sunday 30th September 2018
In your Ones to Watch email today:
We had two good results over the weekend with Margarita Gasparyan (19/1) and Aryna Sabalenka (13/5) both winning their finals.
After a series of near misses over the summer, Saturday’s finals were relatively straightforward with both our players winning in straight sets. The WTA Tashkent win is Gasparyan’s first trophy for over three years, having had a terrible time of it with knee injuries. She’s back – and looking good.
And Sabalenka is looking very good indeed…
Stay with Sabalenka @ 16/1...
The 20-year-old from Belarus showed signs of being the Next Big Thing in Women’s tennis over the summer. After blasting her way to the WTA Wuhan title on Saturday for the biggest win of her young career, Aryna is now up to a new career-high ranking of No.20 in the world. She’s not done yet and another big run in the big Beijing event this week could yet see her earn a place in the Top 8 ‘Race to Singapore’ for the end-of-season championships.
Considering the spectacular form she’s been in, I’m actually pretty okay with odds of 16/1 available for Beijing. Big names like Simona Halep (injured), Elina Svitolina and Petra Kvitova have all already gone out in the 1st Round. Sabalenka has a Bye through to the 2nd Round. The way she plays and carries herself, Aryna will be chomping at the bit to get going here in Beijing. She’s on the up – fast – and it looks like she’s loving it.
Back her again this week. She’ll play to win. And she’s playing great. Sabalenka has made the semi final or final in three of her last five tournaments, all on hard courts – with 20 wins from 25 matches since Wimbledon.
