The Demon v the Murray-man…

An update on our two Ones to Watch picks this week…

In China, Alex De Minaur (16/1 Each Way) won his 1st Round match at ATP Zhuhai. Alex – nicknamed ‘Demon’ – extended his record against fellow Australians to 5-1, with a convincing 6-1, 6-3 victory over John Millman.

De Minaur is now 11/1 for the title. His next match should be a good watch. The young Aussie takes on Andy Murray

This is Thursday’s headline match on the centre court at Zhuhai. You can watch on Amazon Prime Video at 12.30pm, UK time.

The 20-year-old De Minaur is very much one of tennis’ new generation. Murray is 32 now, and continuing his comeback from hip surgery. Andy’s 1st Round win over Tennys Sandgren on Monday was the best the Scot has played since coming back to the tour. In particular, he was strong on serve – and moving very well. That was Murray’s first match win in ATP Tour singles since January.

The younger man is the bookies’ favourite tomorrow, though. De Minaur is 2/5 (1.40) to take another big scalp on the hard courts, having also knocked out Kei Nishikori at the US Open last month.

De Minaur is one of the fastest players around – he’ll get to every ball, and has the power and speed in his groundstrokes to turn defence into attack. Not unlike a young Andy Murray, then…

In the women’s, we’ve flagged up 20-year-old Anna Kalinskaya for WTA Tashkent (16/1 Each Way)…

The Russian has won through the opening two rounds and is now into the quarter finals – and down to a 7/1 shot for the title.

Kalinskaya has now won 11 of her last 13 matches on hard courts. The bookies make her an 8/15 (1.53) favourite to get past another youngster tomorrow, 19-year-old Katarina Zavatska. Anna has played the Ukrainian once before, beating Zavatska 2-1 in Stuttgart qualifying on clay earlier this year.

That quarter final match is first up on centre court in Tashkent tomorrow, live from 6am UK time on BT Sport.

Enjoy the tennis…

Best wishes,
