In Ones to Watch today:
Almost crystal-ball levels of prediction for us in Luxembourg yesterday. The match between Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Elise Mertens produced all the breaks of serve and scoreboard twists that we were expecting…
Between them, those two racked up 13 breaks of serve, 29 break points – and 16 double faults.
The bookies don’t let you win money from simply saying it’ll be a ‘rollercoaster’ match, though. We made a couple of decent plays to target the anticipated outcomes…
A 4/1+ payout for Mertens to win the 2nd Set by the 6-2 Correct Score ensured it was a profitable match for us.
It could’ve been more, though…
Sasnovich got herself 5-3 ahead in the final set, one game from victory, and served for the match. But the old demons returned, and a couple of double faults and reckless unforced errors on crucial points allowed Mertens to reel of four games in a row. The Belgian came back from the brink to win in three sets: 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.
We were pretty close to getting the Sasnovich 2-1 Set Betting score in at 8/1+ there. But once again, mental toughness proved to be the deciding factor in a topsy-turvy WTA match.
You & I also have a couple of strong interests in Luxembourg this afternoon. With two 10/1+ Each Way Outright Winner picks competing in the quarter finals:
Next advice on 27th September…
I’m taking some time off next week. I’ll be back with your next Ones to Watch email and advice on Monday 27th September.
That week, when I return, we’ll be looking at a couple of tournaments in the USA – with the women in Chicago and the men in San Diego. As well as hard-court events taking place in Kazakhstan and Bulgaria.
After that, the calendar gets a welcome boost, with the return of the 1000-grade ‘Masters’ tournament at Indian Wells, California, on 6th October…
Many people in the tennis world refer to Indian Wells as the ‘fifth Major.’ It’s a big event, with both men & women in action. Making a much-anticipated return to the tour, having been cancelled in March 2020 at the start of the pandemic, and moved again from March this year.
That’s all from me for this week. I’ll see you on 27th September.
P.S
If you’re tuning in to follow our WTA Luxembourg quarter finals today, you can watch the matches live on Amazon Prime Video, as well as live streaming on the Bet365 website.
Enjoy the tennis…
Best wishes,
