100/1 Berdych on the comeback trail...
Wednesday 20th February 2019
In your Ones to Watch EXTRA email today:
Berdych is back...
Last month we got on a big early price for this summer’s Wimbledon Women’s title, with Belinda Bencic going in the book as One to Watch.
Today we’re making a move for the Men’s – a pre-emptive strike in case this player racks up any big wins between now and SW19, which would see his price cut...
At 33 years old, Tomas Berdych has burst back into contention at the start of 2019.
The Czech missed the last six months of 2018 with a back injury, and before that had experienced a slump in form in recent years. However, Berdych is back now and looking very good indeed…
Berdych has won 11 out of 15 matches so far in 2019. That fine run of results has seen him finish runner-up at ATP Doha as a 66/1 shot, reach the 4th Round of the Australian Open (only beaten by eventual finalist Rafael Nadal) and the quarter finals in Montpellier.
I’ve watched a fair few of Tomas’ 2019 matches and his game is all there, serving as well as ever and with the booming forehand and guided two-handed backhand all in good working order.
The main thing that has caught my attention about Berdych’s comeback though has been his on-court demeanour. He looks happy, genuinely pleased to be back and playing after a nasty injury that could have led to retirement. For a player labelled as a bit flaky in the past, playing with the pressure off this season could really help him out...
Wimbledon credentials...
As a One to Watch pick, Wimbledon is the Grand Slam to earmark Berdych for this year. The Czech has a noteworthy record on the famous grass courts, including a runner-up trophy in 2010.
His SW19 form reads:
2017 – Semi Final
2016 – Semi Final
2015 – 4th Round
2014 – 3rd Round
2013 – Quarter Final
2012 – 1st Round
2011 – 4th Round
2010 – Final (Runner-Up)
100/1 outsider...
While there are plenty of young players threatening to break through in the Men’s game, in recent years the Grand Slam outsiders (and by outsiders we mean anyone that isn’t Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Andy Murray) have all been well-established on the tour, and into their mid-to-late twenties if not turned 30 already...
Each Way betting is key here (1/2 odds 1-2 places), with the three most recent ‘surprise’ Wimbledon Men’s finalists all finishing runner-up for a half-the-odds place payout:
2018 Final – Kevin Anderson (50/1)
2017 Final – Marin Cilic (28/1)
2016 Final – Milos Raonic (14/1)
We were on both Cilic and Anderson at those outsider prices. Berdych is on the radar as One to Watch for Wimbledon 2019, and in particular at the 100/1 Each Way available with Skybet, Paddy Power and Betfair Sportsbook.

Some exciting news from my Publishers...
The team are all set to launch a brand new football betting service this month. This is a big deal. I’m told the service will be going after big prices and outsiders, so it sounds right up our street.
It all kicks off very soon indeed. This is a project that’s been in development since last summer. And it’s ready to go live any day now…
