22/1 Siniakova now 6/1 – and Save the Date...

In your Ones to Watch email today:
Open goals in Brisbane...
On New Year’s Day we waded into the new season with three players to watch at 20/1+.
Our two men have fallen early in the ATP Brisbane event this week, and it’s looking like Mischa Zverev and Damir Dzumhur have missed a bit of an ‘open goal’...
As we noted on Monday, Andy Murray and Milos Raonic both had a few questions marks over them coming into their first tournament of the season.
Murray and Raonic were the two favourites in the bottom half of the Brisbane draw – and both are now out of the event.
Murray withdrew with a long-standing hip problem, and Raonic lost in his first match of 2018.
That leaves the bottom half of the Brisbane draw – which we deliberately targeted this week – looking wide open:
There are six players remaining in that bottom half, who were all at big prices in the Outright Winner market at the start of the week:
Michael Mmoh 100/1 – now 14/1
Alex De Minaur 25/1 – now 8/1
Denis Istomin 80/1 – now 25/1
Jared Donaldson 80/1 – now 16/1
Ryan Harrison 50/1 – now 12/1
Yannick Hanfmann 100/1 – now 33/1
We won’t be celebrating a big winner there this time, but we correctly targeted (avoided) the dodgy favourites – and that’s half the battle.
Things are looking better for us in China...
22/1 Siniakova now 6/1...
Katerina Siniakova – highlighted at 22/1 and 20/1 at the start of the week – is through to the WTA Shenzhen quarter finals.
Siniakova had a bit of a rollercoaster match this morning, losing her serve a few too many times for my liking, but still managed to come out a 2 sets to nil winner for the second consecutive match.
The 21-year-old Czech – who is on our Ones to Watch in 2018 list – is now down to 6/1 to successfully defend the title that she won here last year. We’ve managed to grab some value in the price there.
All four Shenzhen quarter finals are scheduled for Thursday morning UK time, and you can watch live on BT Sport.
Siniakova is a 4/6 (1.67) favourite to beat Kristyna Pliskova and book a place in the semi finals – where Maria Sharapova or Zarina Dynas would await.
I like Kristyna Pliskova (we had an 18/1 winner on her at the WTA Tashkent event in 2016), and I wouldn’t put you off having a saver bet on that match if you want to protect a bit of your stake. The head-to-head is 3-2 to Siniakova, but Pliskova has won 2 of their previous 3 meetings on hard courts.
The match is schedule for around 8.30am Thursday.
Save the Date...
The new season is alive & kicking and we’re about to step things up a gear. Here are a couple of key dates for you to be aware of – coming up very soon:
I’ll be back soon with more news on the big launch, and full details of what’s in store.
Stay tuned. And enjoy the tennis…
Best wishes,
