Ones to Watch heading for the Australian Open…
Thursday 16th January 2020
In your Ones to Watch EXTRA email today:
Three Ones to Watch in the semi finals…
We’re only in week two of the season. But already four of our Ones to Watch in 2020players have made it to semi finals on the tour…
Our list of 10 promising youngsters includes Hubert Hurkacz, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Veronika Kudermetova.
Those three will all be in semi-final action on Friday morning.
Hurkacz is going well at ATP Auckland in New Zealand. Likewise, Auger-Aliassime at ATP Adelaide in mainland Australia – and Kudermetova at WTA Hobart in the Australian island state of Tasmania.
Anisimova in Australia…
Those runs come off the back of another of our 2020-list players, Amanda Anisimova reaching the semi final stage at WTA Auckland last week…
Serena Williams comprehensively outplayed the 18-year-old in that match, taking just 44 minutes to beat the teenager, 6-1, 6-1.
In today’s Australian Open draw, Anisimova has been placed in the opposite side of the draw to Serena. Meaning a re-match can only be on the cards if they both make the final.
Having won that Auckland title last week, the 38-year-old Williams is the 4/1 favourite for next week’s Australian Open.
Anisimova is a 40/1 outsider. The youngster showed her Grand Slam potential last year, reaching the semi finals at the French Open.
Elsewhere in the women’s draw, fellow American and Ones to Watch in 2020 selection Sofia Kenin could face Serena at the quarter final stage, should they both get that far…
At No.15 in the world, Kenin is currently the highest-ranked player from our list of 10 players to follow this season. In today’s updated Women’s Outright Winner market, Kenin is 50/1 for the Australian Open.
Bencic in the book…
Towards the end of last season, we flagged up two early-bird Ones to Watch for the Australian Open 2020.
In the Men’s, Alex De Minaur (80/1) has had to pull out today – suffering an abdominal muscle tear while playing for Australia at the ATP Cup last week. As stated on our Tennis Betting Rules page, pre-tournament bets will be void with the bookies that I recommended. (Although, as ever, the advice is to check with the specific firm that you use).
For the Women’s, last September we flagged up Belinda Bencic for Australia at 50/1 and 40/1. The 22-year-old is now a general 33/1 chance.
Bencic is in the bottom half of the draw – avoiding Serena Williams. Belinda’s route doesn’t look too bad. It could certainly have been worse.
Other names to watch out for in the Swiss player’s section of the draw are current & former Ones to Watch nominations, Veronika Kudermetova (as big as 250/1), Anett Kontaveit (100/1) & the in-form Aryna Sabalenka (top price 20/1).

The Aussie Open forms the first part of my brand new, 2020 Challenge. We’ll be attempting to land some HUGE odds this season…
