Notes from the Tour: Profit from the carnage at Wimbledon...

Thursday 3rd July 2025

This year’s Wimbledon women’s draw is looking as wide open as ever…

In the build-up to the tournament we’ve discussed the eye-opening recent trend for massive-odds finalists and champions at the women’s Grand Slams, and at Wimbledon in particular. Just take a look at this video…

With the 2025 event just three days in, and half of the 2nd round matches still to be played today - four of the top five women’s seeds have already been knocked out

The early carnage has included world no.2 Coco Gauff and no.3 Jessica Pegula both sent packing in the 1st round…

Along with 4th seed and last year’s Wimbledon runner-up, Jasmine Paolini. And 5th seed and 2024 Olympic gold medal winner Qinwen Zheng. Both dumped out. The 9th seed Paula Badosa is gone, too.

And in the men’s, four of the top 10 seeds have already crashed out…

Including two of last summer’s semi-finalists at SW19, Lorenzo Musetti and Daniil Medvedev. Plus world no.3 Alexander Zverev.

It’s still early days at Wimbledon 2025. And the draws are already opening up…

Wide-open fields inevitably mean more opportunities for outsiders to go deep into the tournament…

I’ve just this morning sent out two women’s picks at odds of 80/1 - 40/1, targeting the bottom half of the draw, where the departure of world no.2 Coco Gauff has left an intriguing hole…

Once again, the door is ajar for big-odds underdogs to do something special at Wimbledon…
