14/1 Gasquet plays today...
Mixed fortunes for our grass court Ones to Watch picks this week, but today could turn out to be good one for us...
The bad news is that our two Women’s picks are out of the WTA Eastbourne event (16/1 Kristina Mladenovic and 50/1 Kristyna Pliskova).
But the good news is that our Men’s pick is going well...
Richard Gasquet – flagged up at 14/1 Each Way in our email on Tuesday – is into the ATP Eastbourne semi finals.
It’s been a rain-delayed week on the south coast and the organisers have been playing catch-up with the match schedule. As a consequence, several players had to play twice at Eastbourne yesterday. One of them was our man Gasquet and he did great, beating both Kevin Anderson and then John Isner in straight sets...
Anderson (14/1) and Isner (12/1) were the two “tall men with big serves” that we originally identified as potential dangers in Gasquet’s side of the draw.
We’ve got Outright Winner and Each Way value on our side: Gasquet is now a general 4/1 for the title.
And he is the 4/5 (1.80) favourite to beat his semi final opponent and fellow Frenchman, Gael Monfils this afternoon. Gasquet beat Monfils 2-1 when they met on grass in Halle just last week, so the signs are promising enough for our man.
The Gasquet v Monfils match is scheduled for 3pm+ today and is live on Eurosport.
