As well as my main business at the French Open tennis this week, I’ll also be taking some time to catch the golf on Sky Sports…
I’ve been following a bit of the LPGA Tour this year. Two players came to my attention after I researched Sebastian Korda for our annual Ones to Watch report. Seb won his first Senior tennis title last month, lifting the ATP 250 Parma trophy at odds of 16/1.
The 20-year-old is now up to a new career-high of no.50 in the world, from no.119 when he went on our pre-season list.
But it’s Seb’s sisters that I’m interested in today…
The Korda sisters…
This is one seriously talented sporting family. Their parents were both professional tennis players. Seb followed them into tennis. And the Korda sisters took to golf…
Nelly Korda is 22 years of age. She is currently no.1 in this season’s LPGA ‘Race to the CME Globe’ standings, and also no.1 for Most Birdies. Nelly is no.4 in the Rolex world rankings. She’s won four times on the LPGA Tour in her young career to date. With an 86% record for Making the Cut at tournaments, and a 38% strike-rate for Top 10 Finishes.
Jessica Korda is 28 years of age, and sits no.5 in the season-points Race. Jessica is ranked no.11 in the world, and in 1st place for Most Eagles right now. The older of the two sisters, Jessica has six career LPGA titles to her name. With an 81% record for Cuts Made, and 21% for Top 10 Finishes.
Those formbook stats mark the Korda sisters as ones to watch at the US Open this weekend. The first tee-offs are from 3pm today, UK time.
