Progress report...
At the end of last year - 24th December, to be precise - I sent out my Ones to Watch in 2020 report.
This latest version of our annual list of little-known, young & improving players contained the details of 10 men & women to look out for in the 2020 season and beyond.
With a pause in play on the tennis tours right now, we can take a look at where our 10 Ones to Watch in 2020 players stand in the current, ‘frozen’ world rankings.
And we can also take note of who’s been getting to finals and the business end of tournaments, and at what prices...

10 players, 5 trophies...
It’s early days in the season of course, even before the current hiatus. But so far overall, our Ones to Watch in 2020 list has been doing us proud.
The progress report shows that seven of our 10 players have moved up the world rankings.
Between them, our players have collected three trophy wins and two runner-up prizes.
In terms of performance in the betting markets, one way to run a bottom-line, acid test is to look at the profit & loss figures, if you’d backed every player to win every tournament...
Across the 10 players, that would be a combined total of 44 tournaments played so far.
In the Outright Winner markets, betting Each Way (at 1/2 odds for 1-2 places) to level 1-point stakes (2 pts total stake per player per tournament), that would be a total of 88 pts staked.
Using the prices quoted above, which are taken from the Calendar page on the Ones to Watch website, where I record the winner & runner-up odds for every tournament throughout the season.
The figures for the Ones to Watch in 2020 list so far come out as:
Staked = 88 pts
Returned = 144.13
Profit/ Loss = +56.13
ROI = 63.78%
Our star performer has undoubtedly been Sofia Kenin. That 50/1 Australian Open win accounts for 77 pts of the 144.13 pts returned.
Felix Auger-Aliassime also needs a special mention. The teenager is still searching for a first ATP title victory. But the young Canadian has now reached a total of five finals...
Last season, Auger-Aliassime made three finals, finishing runner-up each time, at odds of 50/1, 5/1 and 16/1.
So far in 2020, Felix has already reached two finals, at odds of 66/1 and 12/1. He’s very much knocking on the door for a first trophy win.

With the tennis season on hold and the country on lockdown, I have plenty of time to do my number-crunching and analysis.
All the work we do behind the scenes now will help us in the ongoing Ones to Watch quest to find appealing outsiders at attractive prices, later in the season and beyond.

When I visit my Publisher’s offices, I often bump into a guy called Ray Collins, who is based in the same building...
