Julia doubles-up at 7/1...

It’s been a good season for us, and we’re finishing 2017 with a flourish.

We’ve had two winners in a row from our Ones to Watch picks – 25/1 Lucas Pouille winning the ATP Vienna title, followed by 7/1 Julia Goerges winning the WTA Elite Trophy event in Zhuhai.

It’s also two in a row for Julia Goerges – winning the WTA Moscow and WTA Elite Trophy titles, back to back. The German ends the season on a 9-match winning streak – her best ever.

Goerges brought to an end a run of six successive defeats in WTA finals (three of which were this year) in confident style, winning both the Moscow and Zhuhai finals in straight sets, 2-0.

Julia was very impressive in China last week, winning all 4 matches in straight sets on the way to landing a 7/1 winner for us. She beat Coco Vandeweghe in Sunday’s final, 7-5, 6-1.

Looking at the calendar...

The women’s season is now over, but there are a couple of events left in the men’s this month...

The inaugural ATP ‘Next Gen’ Finals takes places in Milan this week, featuring eight of the top youngsters on the tour (aged 21 and under).

That’s followed by the annual ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena in London, starting this Sunday (12th Nov).

This year’s O2 Arena line-up isn’t as mouth-watering as usual in terms of big names, with Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic among the stars missing and due back in 2018 in time for the Australian Open.

  • Rafael Nadal pulled out injured in Paris last week – we’ll wait for the latest news at the end of the week before looking for any potential Ones to Watch picks in London

Last week’s ATP Paris Masters was blown wide open by Nadal’s withdrawal in the quarter finals (after Roger Federer had already pulled out before the tournament began)...

Unheralded Serbian player Filip Krajinovic was the man to take advantage of that Nadal withdrawal – taking his walkover into the semi final and then going on to reach the final from massive pre-tournament odds of 300/1.

It was certainly a crazy week for prices in Paris, with 40/1 Jack Sock coming through to win the biggest title of his career to date.

That win propelled Sock into the last remaining place at the World Tour Finals in London – prompting him to change his off-season plans...

Sock had been due to jet off on his pal (and fellow Top 20 tennis player) John Isner’s stag do, for a round of golf at the famous Augusta course. Instead, Jack is heading to London to compete in the glamourous end of season event in London...

Coming soon – Ones to Watch in 2018...

I’ll be back later in the week, ahead of the start of play at the O2 Arena in London.

And when the season ends, I’ll be putting together a brand new free report for you...

After the success of this year’s Ones to Watch in 2017 report – which included Jelena Ostapenko who won the French Open at 100/1 – I’ll be naming our next batch of youngsters to look out for in the new 2018 season.
