The quest for the next 100/1 winner…

Tuesday 24th November 2020

In your Ones to Watch email today:

  • Coming soon…
  • End-of-season figures for 2020…
  • Players to watch in 2021…

The ATP Finals signed off from London with an entertaining weekend of tennis…

Daniil Medvedev took the honours, beating Dominic Thiem in a high-quality final on Sunday evening.

We left the O2 Arena on good terms, too. Largely thanks to all three Singles matches over the weekend going all the way to three sets…

Ones to Watch member Charlie P burst into my inbox on Sunday, with the subject line of his email declaring in capital letters, ‘ATP SUCCESS!’…

I can see why he was so excited. Charlie bagged himself a pretty sensational payout, with a double on the Set Betting scores in Saturday’s semi finals:

“Hi Tom. Well what a result.. Many thanks!  Had 50 @ 3-1 and 50 @ 4-1 on the 2-1 scorelines and a 50 double with Bet365 and 5% acca bonus 1047.50 so totalled 1497.50. Happy Days. Cheers”

Fantastic stuff. I absolutely love hearing stories like that….

Coming soon in Ones to Watch

Before the tennis resumes in January, I’ll be in touch with a couple of very important annual emails for you.

Firstly, I’ll be putting together my end-of-season figures for 2020. These numbers will shine a light on what size odds have paid out in what kinds of tournaments, over the course of the year. I keep records of the Outright Winner prices and markets, every week.

In fact, I’ve now got data taking in each of the last five seasons. I’ll be delving into that, and I’ll present my findings soon.

From taking an early look at the numbers, I can tell you that they make a very interesting and encouraging case for going after 50/1 and 100/1 shots in the tournament markets…

Talking of big, big odds like those. My Ones to Watch in 2020 report named 10 players before the start of the season, and included two players that went on to win two of the three Grand Slams played this year:

Sofia Kenin won the Australian Open at 50/1, and teenager Iga Swiatek won the French Open at a standout 100/1. Kenin also finished runner-up at the French Open, at 50/1.

Coming up over Christmas, I’ll be sliding my brand new, Ones to Watch in 2021 report down your chimney. Stuffed with young & improving players to follow at big prices next season.

And, after a dreadful year for everyone in terms of the global pandemic, we can be cautiously optimistic that next year we will see something much closer to the full quota of tennis tournaments being played.

Lots to look forward to. I’ll be in touch again soon.

Best wishes,

Oliver Upstone
