Sam and Sloane flying the flag – at 100/1 and 40/1…

Greetings from New York…

Okay, so I’m not in the Big Apple. But I’m sat in front of Eurosport watching the tennis, all night every night – the next best thing.

A quick, sleep-deprived update from me today…

Two of the players in your free, pre-tournament US Open – Ones to Watch report have been going very well so far and are into the quarter finals…

  • 100/1 Sam Querrey is now 8/1 in general and 10/1 at best
  • 40/1 Sloane Stephens is also now 8/1 in general and 10/1 at best

There’s a long way to go yet – but if you’ve backed Querrey and/ or Stephens at the big early prices, then you’re sitting on some great value right now.

If you’ve backed them Each Way, you’re two match wins away from a (1/2 odds) place payout. And three match wins away from a potential big win.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves…

The reason I’m writing to you today is to point out that you might want to take ‘saver bet’ precautions in the quarter finals – and beyond.

If you’re on at anything like 100/1 for Querrey or 40/1 for Stephens, you’ll have plenty of room to manoeuvre by backing their opponents to beat them - the size of your stake depending on whether you want to simply protect your original outlay or to create a win-win situation.

Both players are favourites to win their quarter final matches on Tuesday. That means you’ll get odds-against prices (2.00+) about their respective opponents, Kevin Anderson v Querrey and Anastasija Sevastova v Stephens.

I’ll leave it up to you.

Whatever happens, this tournament is already a victory for the underdogs. Last night tournament favourite Garbine Muguruza and star name Maria Sharapova both went out – just the latest in a long line of shocks & surprises at this most ‘open’ of US Opens.

I’ll be back next week. Enjoy the tennis…

Best wishes,

Tom Wilson
