Tennis Betting Advice - April 2024

Ones to Watch in Stuttgart at 33/1 and 80/1...

Tuesday 16th April 2024

It's been a long wait, but things finally went our way again last week...

33/1 pick Stefanos Tsitsipas won the ATP Monte Carlo Masters for us.

(And if you followed my Each Way golf advice, then you'll also have had some weekend excitement thanks to 28/1 debutant Ludvig Aberg finishing runner-up at The Masters.)

The reason for today's late night/ early morning update - it's gone midnight as I write - is that the WTA Stuttgart event gets underway for it's first full day of matches on Tuesday. With play starting from 11.30am UK time, and the two outsiders I've got my eye on, both in action...

Qinwen Zheng was a big runner for us back in January, reaching a maiden Grand Slam final - landing us a place payout at the Australian Open, advised at prices of 33/1 - 25/1, Each Way.

As anticipated, the 21-year-old's form has taken a dip since that first Major breakthrough. But with the Chinese Ones to Watch name now ready to get her teeth into the clay-court season, and the odds drifting back to that 33/1 - 25/1 range that we targeted before Australia... this feels like the time to get behind the world no.7 once again...

Stuttgart's somewhat unique indoor clay courts tend to play into the hands of players who can really thump the ball. World no.1 and two-time reigning champ, Iga Swiatek, fits that bill. As does world no.2 Aryna Sabalenka, who has made the Stuttgart final three years running - but is yet to win it...

Swiatek goes off as an odds-on favourite for the hat-trick this week, at just 10/11 (1.91). Sabalenka is 4/1 at best, and shorter in general. Both women have had moments of uncertainty this season, though. And as ever, I'm plenty willing to go after the outsiders at big prices...

Qinwen Zheng has the ball-striking power to do well here, too. And two of her last three title wins have come on clay courts.

For even bigger odds, we've got Jasmine Paolini in the book as an early-bird, 100/1+ pick for the French Open (read more here). And the 28-year-old Italian, who is rocking a new career-high ranking of no.14 in the world right now, might just come out raring to go for this springtime clay season...

In 2023, the diminutive yet powerful Paolini signed off for the clay campaign with three finals from four WTA events. Indeed, it was only Qinwen Zheng who was able to stop Jasmine in the WTA Palermo trophy match last summer.

The Italian has a tough draw this week - but odds of 80/1 and 66/1 allow for that. This is a player I want to keep on our side between now and Roland Garros...
