Teenage dreams for the US Open...
Friday 16th August 2024
Last Friday we got on Marta Kostyuk as a Ones to Watch, early-bird pick for the women’s US Open…
If Kostyuk beats world no.1 Iga Swiatek in Cincinnati this evening, then the last remaining 100/1 for New York will surely get snapped up…
As I write, the 22-year-old Ukrainian is still available for the US Open at 100/1 Each Way with William Hill, Betfred, BetVictor, and Betway. Along with the firms using the Kambi sportsbook: Unibet, BetUK, BetMGM, and LiveScoreBet.
Follow this rising star in New York…
Right now, a Ones to Watch player who’s price I can’t see drifting between now and the start of play in the Big Apple on 26th August, is Mirra Andreeva…
As anticipated in our pre-season Ones to Watch in 2024 Report. The 17-year-old Russian continues to prove that she is going to be the real deal…
Ranked no.57 in the world before a ball was hit in 2024, already making Mirra the youngest player in the women’s Top 100 by some distance. Andreeva is now up no.24 in the rankings…
Last month, the teenager won her maiden title on the WTA Tour. And at the Grand Slams, Andreeva has once again showcased a taste for the big stage, even at such a young age…
Having won five matches in a row to come through qualifying and reach the French Open 3rd Round as a 16-year-old last June. Mirra then went one better at Wimbledon 2023, reeling off six wins on the bounce to again come through qualifying at a Major – this time reaching the Last 16…
This year, Andreeva has built on that impressively – while hinting that the best is still to come…
The Russian teenager made the Last 16 at January’s Australian Open. And then the Semi Finals at the French Open…
So far this week, Andreeva has been in great form at the Cincinnati Open – the last big event before the US Open…
Last year, Mirra lost in the 2nd Round in New York. Taken out by another teenager, Coco Gauff – who went on to win the whole thing.
And that women’s US Open teenage trend is a noteworthy one…
Gauff won in 2023. Emma Raducanu beat Leylah Fernandez in the 2021 final (both teenagers). Bianca Andreescu was 19 when she won the US Open in 2019…
That’s three teenage US Open champions in the last five seasons.
And before that, Naomi Osaka was just 20 years old when she won her first Grand Slam, at the US Open 2018.
Let’s take 25/1 or 22/1 for Mirra Andreeva today….
I’m away next week, and want to get this one in the book for us, nice and early.
Your next email will be on Tuesday, 27th August – when the US Open 1st Round will be underway. Then we’ll have the draw at hand, and be able to map out the potential routes to the finals for our next selections, including the men’s event.
