During which time, the Slovakian reached the first WTA finals of her career (three of them). Winning a maiden title along the way. And going off at odds of 50/1 in two of those hard-court events…
Halfway through that run, Sramkova turned 28 years of age. A potential magic number for female players maturing and starting to win trophies, as discussed recently in Ones to Watch EXTRA on 6th February.
Rebecca is now up to a career-best ranking of no.40 in the world. This month’s victory over Mirra Andreeva in Doha also puts a noteworthy outsider notch on the list, seeing as 17-year-old Andreeva then went on to win big in Dubai last week - and become the youngest women’s Top 10 player since 2009.
While a couple of the higher-ranked 28-year-olds that we talked about in that age-themed article the other day are also making their debuts here in Merida this week - a tournament upgraded this year from WTA 250 to 500 status…
Donna Vekic is priced at just 17/2 (9.5), and Beatriz Haddad Maia is 16/1 at best. The former is in the top half of the draw, along with no.1 seed Emma Navarro.
Haddad Maia could face our player Sramkova in the next couple of days, but the Brazilian is yet to show any kind of form so far in 2025. In other words, the opportunity could be there for the underdog to progress…
With 50/1 and 40/1 available for Sramkova, we’ll make the Ones to Watch play and back the outsider Each Way in the tournament market today. She plays in the 1st round tonight, priced as the favourite to beat Lulu Sun, who has lost seven out of eight matches so far this year.
