ATP Masters 1000: Eight tournaments, four 100/1 finalists...

Monday 6th March 2023

There may be snow forecast here in the UK. But in the States, the March ‘Sunshine Double’ is about to get underway…

As discussed in my last email to you, we have good reason to be excited about Indian Wells and Miami this month. Two of the biggest tournaments on the tennis calendar, and both with a history of big-price winners. Read more here…

Indian Wells starts from Wednesday this week. We’ll be making our first moves in the Outright Winner market then. This is the first men’s ATP ‘Masters’ 1000 event of the season. And last year, these high-grade tournaments were a great hunting ground for Ones to Watch prices…

In 2022, there were 8 ATP Masters 1000 tournaments. We got a finalist in 4 of them…

  • With 100/1 Taylor Fritz winning Indian Wells, and 33/1 Holger Rune landing the Paris Masters – both maiden Masters champions
  • Along with Each Way payouts from 22/1 Casper Ruud in Miami… and 33/1 Hubert Hurkacz in Montreal

And away from our own picks, there were plenty of other mouth-watering prices on display at these ATP Masters 1000 events in 2022…

  • Including Pablo Carreno Busta lifting a maiden Masters title at 100/1 in Montreal… and Borna Coric doing the same in Cincinnati, at 150/1. Along with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina reaching his first ATP final as a 150/1 qualifier in Monte Carlo

That’s quite a stack of big-odds outcomes from just eight specific events: four 100/1+ finalists from eight Masters tournaments last year – with three of them lifting the trophy.

This year there are nine ATP Masters 1000 tournaments on the calendar, with Shanghai returning to the men’s tour in October. Indian Wells is first on the list, this week.

And those recent 33/1 and 100/1 Masters results are no flash in the pan…

Because with the likes of world no.1 Novak Djokovic once again set to miss the March Sunshine Double (now confirmed as out of Indian Wells). And Rafael Nadal already announced as out injured for both Indian Wells and Miami this month. The door is very much open for the new kids on the block…

You and I will be looking to pick out some exciting young runners and riders for Indian Wells this week. Both for the men’s and women’s events. I’ll be back soon with more…

Our first bets will be on Wednesday.

Enjoy the tennis…

Best wishes,

Tom Wilson
