WTA Madrid - Jil's in the semi finals tonight...

Jil Belen Teichmann is having another good run at a WTA 1000 event. The Swiss left-hander is showing a taste for these prestigious ‘Masters’ tournaments. Last August, she got to the final in Cincinnati, dropping just one set en-route to the championship match.

Here in Madrid, Jil is through to the semi finals - and is yet to drop a set.

After back-to-back 2-0 victories over Petra Kvitova and Leylah Fernandez last week, we got on the 24-year-old at 28/1 on Tuesday morning. Since then, Teichmann has posted two more straight-sets wins…

Jil made it three wins in a row against higher-ranked opponents, landing match underdog odds of 2/1 when beating world no.18 Elena Rybakina, 6-3, 6-1.

On Wednesday, the world no.35 then beat no.37 Anhelina Kalinina, 6-3, 6-4, in the quarter finals.

That brings us to today, with Teichmann in the semi finals, where she’ll take on world no.14 Jessica Pegula this evening.

In the Outright Winner betting, our 28/1 shot is now 4/1 to lift the trophy.

A win over Pegula today would secure an Each Way payout for reaching the final. The bookies make it close, with the American the slight favourite at 8/11 (1.73), and Jil at 11/10 (2.1). If we didn’t already have a payout riding on the match win, I’d be putting Teichmann up as a bit of value in the Match Winner market.

As ever, it’s exciting to have a big-odds player on our side and going well - and that’s what Ones to Watch is all about.
