Steamroller form at 35/1...

Danielle Collins is in the form of her life right now…
It’s no coincidence that the 30-year-old American’s best-ever results have come in this, her final season before retiring…
Collins has long been a Ones to Watch regular. When she was still going by the full name of Danielle Rose Collins, the feisty big-hitter made a splash on the tour in the States during the annual Sunshine Double of 2018. Starting that year with a lower-tier ITF title in Newport Beach. And following it up with a run to the Last 16 of Indian Wells – and then the semi finals of the Miami Open.
Collins would then return to Miami to lift the biggest title of her career, in March of this year. Going off as 100/1 outsider, having started the current 2024 season ranked at no.55 in the world.
Danielle backed-up that Miami win with another big title, in Charleston. The former college player is now up to no.15 in the rankings – and set to go higher again when the new list comes out, next week.
Collins plays in the Rome Masters quarter finals tomorrow. If she wins that match, then the market is likely going to start taking a lot more notice of her chances for the upcoming French Open…
Roland Garros starts in Paris from next weekend, Sunday 26th May. Ladbrokes & Coral are already onto Collins’ form. Not surprising, considering this streaky player is streaking hard right now… winning 18 of her last 19 matches. They go 10/1 for the French Open…
But elsewhere, we can get 35/1 and 33s in a couple of places. With 25/1 in general. If Collins keeps on winning and keeps on posting such dominant, impressive performances between now and Paris (she blasted away her most recent opponent in Rome, 6-0, 6-3, in little over an hour). Then I can easily foresee a situation where Collins is back in the Top 10 for the first time since 2022 – and going off at more like 14/1 for Roland Garros…
Danielle has always had Grand Slam potential. With a power game suited to taking time away from opponents, and blitzing them with heavy, accurate shots. When it all clicks, the firepower is awesome. We were on the dog-loving American when she reached the Australian Open final as a rank outsider in 2022. That remains to date her sole appearance in a Major final. But on current form and momentum, that could all change this season…
Fitness/ health issues are the only thing that could derail her chances right now. Indeed, those battles are a large part of why Danielle made the decision to announce her retirement for this season, age 30. The signs are good right now, though. Here’s what Collins said after her most recent match win in Rome this week:
“I’m so glad that I have been able to figure out some of the physical things I have needed to do to peak at the right time and to feel like I’m ready to go”
We’re already on Jasmine Paolini as a big outsider for the women’s French Open 2024. Let’s add the incredibly in-form Danielle Collins to the book today, too…
