One to Watch in Sofia at 18/1…

Tuesday 10th November 2020

In your Ones to Watch email today:

  • Ones to Watch this week…
  • WTA Linz…
  • ATP Sofia…

We’re playing a bit of a game of cat and mouse with the timings and the Outright Winner markets today. Play starts in Sofia from 10am UK time…

The tournament prices will go down for the day then, and come back up tonight. The player we’re looking to follow doesn’t play his next match until tomorrow…

One to Watch in Sofia at 18/1…

John Millman has long been one of the most likeable men on the tour. Until last month, the Australian was probably only really known to casual tennis followers as the man who shocked Roger Federer at the US Open in 2018.

That year, John also made a first ATP final, and reached a career-high of no.33 in the world. In 2019, he reached a second final. Millman had to settle for the runner-up trophy both times.

All that changed last month though, with the 31-year-old finally getting his hands on a first title, winning ATP Astana indoors in Kazakhstan. Millman was 12/1 at that ATP 250-grade event. He’s that price and bigger in this week’s 250 event at ATP Sofia. And already through to the 2nd round after a 2-0 win over Bulgarian wildcard Adrian Andreev on Sunday.

The top half of the Sofia draw contains three of the favourites, with young guns Denis Shapovalov, Alex De Minaur and Jannik Sinner all firming up at around just 9/2 (5.5) – 11/2 (6.5) each. The same goes for Felix Auger-Aliassime, in the bottom half.

Millman is in that bottom side of the draw, and can’t meet Auger-Aliassime until the semi final stage. And there are no guarantees the young Canadian will get that far, having struggled badly on his serve and going out in the 1st round at Paris last week, where we were on him at outsider odds of 40/1 and 33/1. In comparison, Felix is just 9/2 here, and looking for a first ATP title of his own, having been runner-up six times in total over the past two seasons.

With 18/1 and 16/1 available, Millman is one to follow this week. He can keep the ball rolling, and could reach a new career best in the rankings with a good run here.
