ATP Metz update - our 3 underdogs in action today...
Wednesday 8th November 2023
Good morning. Our three Ones to Watch picks for ATP Metz are all in action in the Round of Last 16 today.
Looking to make their way through to the quarter finals at this French indoor hard-court event, we have a trio of outsiders in the book.
All backed at attractive Each Way prices in the Outright Winner market, as is our mantra…
ATP Metz update – our 3 underdogs in action today…
In Monday morning’s email, we got on:
Alexander Shevchenko @ 28/1 (or 50/1 if anyone managed to get that bigger price with Unibet – they swiftly brought it in line with other firms at 28/1, within 20 minutes of the email going out). Shevchenko won his 1st round match in straight sets, and the Russian world no.63 is priced as a short odds-on favourite at 1/3 (1.3) to beat Lucky Loser, Mate Valkusz of Hungary, who is ranked no.232.
Luca Van Assche @ 66/1 – the French teenager had a great win in his opener, coming from 2-5 down in a final-set tiebreak to beat the higher-ranked and shorter-priced Botic Van De Zandschulp (it’s about time one of those tiebreaks went our way). Luca showed great composure to come from a set down to win 3-6, 6-3, 7-6. Next up for our 19-year-old One to Watch, a clash with three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka. The bookies make Luca the slight underdog, at 6/5 (2.2). Van Assche won his one previous meeting with Stan, on clay in April of this year.
Pierre-Hugues Herbert @ 66/1 – our other home pick for this French tournament is 32-year-old Herbert, on something of a comeback trail having mostly found success in Doubles in recent times. He looked good in the 1st round of Singles this week though, and the Metz crowd will be cheering for their man against today’s highly-respected opponent, Alex De Minaur. The Aussie is a great player, but maybe our man will catch Alex a little flat today; world no.12 De Minaur has just missed out on a place in the end-of-season ATP Finals, and has the upcoming Davis Cup finals coming up, where he’ll be representing his country. Herbert is priced at 4/1 for the upset this afternoon. The career head-to-head is 2-1 to De Minaur – but this will be their first meeting indoors.
We have price on our side…
A huge part of Ones to Watch is getting big prices in the book. We can’t control what happens on court after that, much as I’d love to be out there with a racket…
On the price front today, in the ATP Metz – Moselle Open, Outright Winner market:
We have 28/1 Shevchenko now trading at 18/1…
66/1 Van Assche now down to 22/1…
And 66/1 Herbert now priced at 50/1.
Play starts from 12 noon, UK time.
Enjoy the tennis…
