Tennis Betting Advice - September 2024

I told you she was a fighter...

Thursday 12th September 2024

The great thing about the tennis scoring system is, you never run out of time…

In football, if your team was 0-5 down with 89 minutes on the clock, then you’d be tearing up the bet slip…

But tennis really is a whole different ball game…

Until match point is won, it’s never, ever, over. We saw the latest example of that last night in Mexico – and the comeback went our player’s way…

Camila comes back from 0-5 down…

In Monday’s WTA Guadalajara preview, I said that Camila Osorio is a fighter. And I’ve said it about her many times before…

The likeable young Colombian showed all her grit, courage, and determination last night. Coming from 0-5 down in the final set, to pull off an amazing fightback.

Osorio beat Veronika Kudermetova, 7-6, 6-7, 7-5. The match was every bit as long and dramatic as that scoreline suggests.

Now, I don’t anticipate that you stayed up past midnight to watch it, as I did. But let me tell you: it was exciting at the end…

At 0-5 down in the deciding set, staring defeat in the face, and with pain in her right shoulder. Osorio was in tears…

But she dug in. She stayed in the rallies. Camila was brave in attack. Held her nerve better than her increasingly frustrated opponent (at one point, a disgusted Kudermetova was hitting herself on the head with her racket).

Come the end of the match, well past three hours. This time, it was tears of joy for Osorio. The commentator exclaimed: “Just look at what it means to her!”

Our 25/1 shot is now trading at 6/1…

Great stuff from Camila Osorio. Our 25/1 shot moves in the Guadalajara Open quarter finals – and is now down to around 6/1 in the Outright Winner market...

We have that 25/1 price on our side. The bookies are now only betting 1/3 odds Each Way, too. We’re on from the start at the best and standard place terms of 1/2 odds.

There’s a long way to go yet, of course…

After that gruelling contest, Osorio now has a day off to recover. She plays again on Friday. And the other good news is that Camila holds a 2-0 career head-to-head in her favour over her quarter-final opponent, Kamila Rakhimova…

On the other hand, Rakhimova has been in fine form of late. The 23-year-old Russian, who is ranked no.89 in the world, won a lower-tier title here in Guadalajara, just last week. She’s on a seven-match winning streak. Although two of those victories came courtesy of injured opponents retiring, mid-match – including a very out-of-sorts Victoria Azarenka last night.

After 2nd seed and 3/1 pre-tournament favourite Danielle Collins was also knocked out yesterday, following the exit of 3rd seed Azarenka, the bottom half of this WTA Guadalajara draw is there for the taking…

Our pick Osorio is in the book for us at 25/1, a price that was available across the board on Monday.

Rakhimova went off as big as 33/1 and 28/1. But is now just 6/1 in general to go on and win what would be a first career title this week.

As I write this morning, BetVictor stand alone by offering 7/1 for Rakhimova, with the original place terms of 1/2 odds Each Way still intact. That might tempt you for a saver bet. I mention it just so you know. On this occasion, I’m happy riding our 25/1 ticket for Osorio. The fight isn’t over yet…

  • You can watch the tournament live on the Sky Sports Tennis channel, with Sky offering a range of options via the red button/ interactive feature, as well as online and on the app. Some bookies, such as Bet365, offer live streaming if you have a funded account

We have seven more tournaments coming up this month, including next week. And then a busy October, with the tours returning to China for a couple of high-grade, ATP & WTA 1000 ‘Masters’ events. Lots to come…
