The 23-year-old Italian went off at 50/1 in Monte-Carlo. It took the world no.2 and 8/5 (2.6) pre-tournament favourite to beat him; Carlos Alcaraz came from behind to win the final by two sets to one - with Lorenzo struggling with injury as the match went on.
I’ve long had Musetti ear-marked as Ones to Watch. He first appeared in my annual pre-season report when still a teenager, back in January 2021. Here’s what I wrote at the time:
Since then, Musetti has won two titles on the ATP Tour (both in 2022). Last season, he got to three finals, and also had his best run yet at a Grand Slam - reaching the semi finals at Wimbledon.
That return from injury and blast of form in the second half of 2024 prompted me to advise Ones to Watch members to back Lorenzo Musetti for the French Open 2025, at odds of 100/1 Each Way (you can view that original members-only article from 14th November here)...

After reaching a debut Masters final last week, and climbing to a new career-best ranking of no.11 this Monday. Musetti is now trading at 33/1 in general for next month’s men’s French Open, with BetVictor just 28/1…
After that big Monte-Carlo run last week, Musetti pulled out of Barcelona this week. But all being well, we can expect to see the Italian and his swashbuckling one-handed backhand in action on the clay very soon. Be it at the next Masters event in Madrid next week, or in Rome after that. With the French Open itself coming up in Paris at the end of May.

Tiantsoa Sarah Rakotomanga Rajaonah (some bookies/ websites might start shortening that name…) started this week as a 250/1 complete outsider for WTA Rouen. That price then dropped to 80/1 after winning in the 1st round, and then 40/1 last night after reaching the quarter finals…
