Indian Wells update: match-point drama in California...
Wednesday 15th March 2023
A little update from me this morning, after another engrossing (and very late) night watching the tennis at Indian Wells…
We often acknowledge how fascinating the tennis scoring system is. It certainly never fails to get my pulse racing. We’ve had a few match-point dramas go against us in recent times. It was one-all on that front last night…
Match-point drama in California…
In the men’s Outright Winner betting, our 50/1 shot Tommy Paul had six match points against Felix Auger-Aliassime. But the Canadian saved them all, and Felix finally edged out our American pick, coming from behind to beat Paul, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6.
Things went our way in the women’s 4th Round though, with Petra Kvitova saving four match points enroute to beating the pre-match favourite, Jessica Pegula, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6. This time, the tiebreak and decisive match point went our way. With that Kvitova result landing one of two winning legs from yesterday’s Set Betting Trixie…
All three of yesterday’s targeted women’s matches landed the odds-against prices for 3 Sets in the Total Sets market. And 2-1 Set Betting score-lines for Kvitova and Maria Sakkari provided a small-stakes 25/1+ winning double from the 130/1+ Trixie.
As I said yesterday, I like the way that three 2-1 scores roll up on the odds. We’ll be looking to play this tactic again: you’re never far away from a three-set rollercoaster on the WTA Tour…
Here are those three score-lines in full:
Maria Sakkari beat Karolina Pliskova 6-4, 5-7, 6-3
Aryna Sabalenka beat Barbora Krejcikova 6-3, 2-6, 6-4
Petra Kvitova beat Jessica Pegula 6-2, 3-6, 7-6
33/1 Norrie and 40/1 Muchova through to the Quarter Finals…
With the Quarter Finals taking place tonight and tomorrow, we have two Ones to Watch picks running for us in the Indian Wells Outright Winner markets. After Cam Norrie posted a good underdog win over Andrey Rublev last night. And Karolina Muchova won the all-Czech battle with our other 40/1 pick, Marketa Vondrousova…
Muchova has recently stated that she likes the ‘rest day’ you get at a big tournament like this; for a player with such injury history, that’s a very good point. We’ve got Karolina in the book at 50/1+ for one of the biggest events of them all this summer – the two-week jaunt at Wimbledon. You get a day off between matches there, too…
Miami next week…
After Indian Wells this week, we’ll be staying in the USA for another massive, 1000-grade ATP & WTA tournament. With the Miami Open starting from next Tuesday, 21st March. Stay tuned.
Enjoy the tennis…
