Two 100/1 teenagers - Ones to Watch in Australia...

Thursday 5th January 2023

Happy New Year! The new tennis season is underway. The first Grand Slam of the year is coming up this month – the Australian Open in Melbourne. And I’ve got two exciting young players for you to look out for today…

When it comes to highly-rated teenagers, I always say the same thing:

I want to be on them when they first strike it big.

Back in November, members of my Ones to Watch service got on 19-year-old Holger Rune at 33/1, when he won his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title at the Rolex Paris Masters.

Two young women feature prominently in my notes for the new 2023 tennis season:

  • Linda Fruhvirtova – Czech Republic, age 17 (birthday 1st May)
  • Linda Noskova – Czech Republic, age 18 (birthday 17th Nov)

These two Czech teenagers have already homed in on the top 100 in the WTA world rankings. And both Linda N and Linda F have featured in Ones to Watch before…

LINDA FRUHVIRTOVA

Linda Fruhvirtova

In the case of Linda Fruhvirtova, I first mentioned her along with younger sister Brenda, back in the strange ‘lockdown’ season of 2020. When they were age just 15 and 13, respectively. Read my article from July 2020 here.

Since then, I’ve advised Linda Fruhvirtova a couple of times at big prices – 50/1 & 40/1 Each Way for WTA Charleston last April. And then at standout odds of 1,000/1 & 600/1 at the US Open last August.

Straight after the US Open 2022, Linda F went on to win her first senior WTA title, lifting the trophy in Chennai at 6/1. As I said last year, I don’t want to miss any chances with this exciting and very highly-rated newcomer…

  • The career-to-date formbook stats say that outdoor hard courts are Linda Fruhvirtova’s best surface, with a 45-16 win rate on the pro circuit at all levels (ITF, WTA & Grand Slam). That’s a 74% winning ratio on outdoor hard courts

She’ll be up against tougher opponents from now on, as Linda settles into life on the main WTA Tour. But all the signs are there for this teenager to go and do something special in the years to come. And why not this year…

As we’ve seen with 100/1 teenage maiden Grand Slam winners Iga Swiatek (an early-bird Ones to Watch pick for the French Open 2020), and US Open 2021 winner Emma Raducanu. These youngsters can burst onto the scene from a young age…

LINDA NOSKOVA

Linda Noskova

Linda Noskova is the other Czech rising star that I want to mention today. Ones to Watch members had a 2/1 match winner on Noskova at the WTA Prague event last July, after the then 17-year-old had won a title on the lower-tier ITF circuit. She went on to reach a debut WTA semi-final in Prague that week.

I flagged Linda N up again in September 2022, at big odds for WTA Tallinn, where she reached the Last 16.

Now age 18, Noskova has started the new 2023 season in promising form. I watched her put in a confident and dominant display at WTA Adelaide last night, where she beat 20-year-old former Wimbledon Girls’ champion, Claire Liu, 6-2, 6-2.

That came after an even more impressive scalp in the 1st round, with Linda beating former French Open Girls’ winner, Daria Kasatkina.

And in Adelaide Qualifying last weekend, Linda N beat another junior Grand Slam champ, 2016 Wimbledon Girls’ winner and former junior world no.1, Anastasia Potapova.

  • Linda Noskova is a junior Major winner herself, having won the French Open Girls’ title in 2021

The 18-year-old is played four won four on hard courts so far this season, and is into the WTA Adelaide quarter finals, where she’ll face 33-year-old two-time Australian Open winner and former world no.1, Victoria Azarenka, in the early hours of Friday morning. If she pulls off the upset there, then a few more people might start taking notice of Noskova…

In true Ones to Watch style, let’s get on both of these exciting Czech teenagers at big odds for the next big tournament – with odds of 100/1+ Each Way available for this month’s upcoming Australian Open in Melbourne…

Australian Open 2023 – Women’s

Outright Winner – Each Way (1/2 odds 1-2 places):

This one will probably go quick (it was 600/1 earlier), but as I write this Thursday afternoon, Unibet have Linda Fruhvirtova at 400/1 Each Way. 100/1+ is more widely available…

  • Linda Noskova @ 150/1 BetVictor, 125/1 Paddy Power, Betfair Sportsbook, 100/1 Bet365, William Hill
