One to Watch in Nottingham at 20/1...
Wednesday 17th June 2026
Wimbledon is a week and a half away. ANN LI has form for going well in smaller events on the eve of the Grand Slams…
Getting to finals in the build-up to the Majors, while never as yet troubling the field in the big ones…
The 25-year-old American did it last season, runner-up in Cleveland in the week before the US Open
And the year before. Winning in Valencia at a lower-tier tournament on this same week on the calendar, just prior to Wimbledon
Back in 2021, Li also made a WTA final just before the Australian Open. A match that never got to be played, due to Covid-related delays
Clearly, Ann has the knack of taking her chances and putting together a burst of form, at a time when many players have their eye on bigger prizes.
That’s not to say Li is a journeywoman on the tour. It would be harsh. In fact, right now, she is at a career-high ranking of no.29 in the world. And with two full-grade WTA titles to her name overall, including one last October. The 25-year-old may yet have her best moments on court still to come.
Li won her 1st round match on her WTA Nottingham debut on the grass on Tuesday. And a tally of 15 aces in the match is a very notable piece of form in these playing conditions.
The bookies make Ann the favourite to win her next match, which is scheduled for Thursday. She’ll take on upcoming 20-year-old Australian, Taylah Preston, who is ranked no.124.
I’m happily surprised to see that Ann Li’s starting price this week of 20/1 Each Way for the Nottingham title is still available across the board, despite her ace-heavy opening-round result.
We’ll take 20/1 today. Today’s play starts at 11am, at which point the Outright markets will be suspended for the day. But as I say, Li’s round of 16 match isn’t until Thursday, so there should be plenty of time to get on.
