Wimbledon men's picks at 20/1 and 80/1...

As promised, we’re making our first moves in the Men’s Outright Winner market for Wimbledon today…
Play starts in the 1st round on Monday. The draw was made this morning. Armed with this document, we can map out potential underdog paths to the final.
With the key watch-note being, world no.1, odds-on 4/7 (1.57) favourite, and reigning champion, Jannik Sinner is in the top half of the draw…
Not to say that Sinner is unbeatable (nobody is unbeatable) – and the no.1 suffered a shock 2nd-round exit at the French Open last time out. Still, it makes sense to cast the majority of our arrows in the direction of the opposite side of the draw.
American duo with big chances…
On that front, the bottom half does look a fantastic opportunity for two men we’ve backed here before. The American pair of TAYLOR FRITZ and BEN SHELTON have featured prominently in this month’s grass-court swing. Including facing off against each other in two go-the-distance three-set battles over in Germany…
Shelton beat Fritz in the ATP Stuttgart final on June 14th. Fritz got his own back the next week, knocking out Ben in the ATP Halle quarter finals, as well as recent French Open winner Alexander Zverev in the semis, before losing to another American, Frances Tiafoe, in the final.
Age 23, Ben is at a career-high of no.5 in the world. He’s improved his Wimbledon showing, year on year: Shelton has gone 2nd round… last 16 (4th round)… and then a maiden SW19 quarter final last summer.
Taylor is at no.7 in the rankings and has hit no.4 in the past. He has a great grass record; indeed, each of his last three tour titles have all been won on the green stuff. Fritz has been a near miss for us at Wimbledon before – we were on the American at fancy prices in 2022 when he lost an agonising five-set classic against Rafael Nadal in the quarter finals… only for Rafa to then withdraw and not play the semi final, gifting a pass to the final for Nick Kyrgios. That one still bugs me. Anyway, here and right now, a 28-year-old Fritz will know this next fortnight might be his best ever chance to win Wimbledon. And as we’ve noted before, 28 is a good age to be good…
Fritz made the Wimbledon quarters again in 2024, and then the semi final last year. The next step on that stairway is of course the final.
With world no.2 and former two-time Wimbledon champ Carlos Alcaraz essentially missing from this side of the draw, the prices (and reduced Each Way place terms) reflect that – and I make Shelton and Fritz the two strongest names to watch in this side of the sheet. They could meet in the semi finals – and we’d be very happy if they did.
Felix to come good at 80/1…
Potential disrupters in the top half of the draw, where Sinner looms large, include another Mr USA, Tommy Paul (50/1), who has made the Queen’s Club final in London two years running, but is yet to reach a Major final. And Daniil Medvedev (50/1 best, 33/1 general) who made back-to-back semis at SW19 in 2023-24, but has also flopped in the 1st round in three of the last four ‘Slams, including at Wimbledon last year.
One ticket I like at the opening prices though is former Ones to Watch youngster, FELIX AUGER ALIASSIME. With odds of 80/1 and 66/1 on offer…
Felix is in the best part of the top half, in that he can’t meet no.1 Sinner until a possible semi final.
Auger Aliassime is often criticised for not doing enough at the very biggest tournaments. That comes from expectation, as those in the know in tennis have known how good – and professional, and talented – the Canadian is, ever since he was a kid. To me, Felix looks to have added a bit more grit in recent times, and another way to look at the Grand Slam formbook is that he’s been knocking on the door…
The 25-year-old lands in London this summer sitting on a career-best ranking of no.4 in the world. That status alone should make us question some of the big prices on offer…
And as we said before Madison Keys won the Australian Open 2025 for us at massive odds, this is a player who gets beaten down for ‘choking’ or being fragile. But is actually not far off finding the piece of the puzzle to become a Major winner.
Auger Aliassime reached the quarter finals at Wimbledon in 2021, but hasn’t been past the 2nd round since. I’m not too worried about that. I believe he’s got a big run in him at Wimbledon 2026. He’s won one ATP title so far this season, after collecting three in 2025.
The big-stage experience is there these days, too. Felix has also made the latter stages at two of the last three Grand Slams: a quarter final at the start of June in Paris, and a semi final at the US Open last September.
We will track and add more players as the tournament progresses. These are my three men’s picks before a ball is hit, as we aim to take on the favourites once again…
